“Ascension” by David Huffman, is a 45-foot-tall glass piece that defines the front entrance of 17th & Broadway, a residential tower by SCB. Making sure the piece was activated by light at night was our objective.

It’s one thing to look at renderings and drawings on your computer screen or scaled mockups. It’s another thing altogether to be over 1,000 feet above street level during construction and take stock of the scale of the piece we were working on.

The role of light in places of worship is of paramount importance, and in this church, the unadorned, restrained simplicity of the elements results in an exquisitely calm and contemplative space.

The dynamic interplay of daylight and texture is a constant source of inspiration and wonder, whether revealed in the contours of a Japanese Zen garden, located on the coast in Maine or in the office of a Chiropractor in San Francisco’s Financial District.
